Bishops are worth 3 points and they, along with knights, are so-called minor pieces.

The bishops can move to any square along a diagonal. As such, this bishop in the center has 13 legal moves.

White has to move the pawn away to save it.

Remember to move your bishop around in its diagonals to win material or defend your pieces. Practice on your board and with a friend!

White can also continue moving diagonally.

The bishops are the only piece that stay on the same color square in which they start! 

Since both players start with two bishops, they have a bishop for each color.

Black's bishop has 9 legal moves, in part because it's not centralized, in part because its e7-pawn blocks it.

A bishop captures how it moves: diagonally.

If for whatever reason White makes a mistake, the bishop will be able to capture a pawn.

The king goes to c7. We'll study more about the king's movement later on.
