Let's study some interesting pawn moves you can play in chess! 

Firstly, it's important to know that when a pawn reaches the final rank (8th rank for White and 1st rank for Black) it can be promoted to another piece.

Finally, I want to teach you about promoting a pawn.

Remember: a pawn can move up two squares if it hasn't moved in the game yet.  

After that, it can only move upwards one square or capture diagonally in front of it.

In nearly all cases, the best piece to promote a pawn to is a queen, because the queen is the strongest piece. 

In chess notation, this is shown as a8=Q.

The end goal of a pawn is to reach the final rank.

2. bxa6 here is an example of an en passant capture. 

To play it, you must do so immediately when made available. You cannot wait multiple turns to play this move.

Black can capture the pawn that just landed on h5.

And finally, you could make a bishop if you so desired. However, the standard rule of thumb is to always promote to a queen unless there's a specific reason not to.

This king is too far to stop the pawn, so now it can become another piece (knight, bishop, rook or queen).

The first special move I want to show you with the pawn is one called en passant. 

It's one of the most difficult moves to understand. But basically, if a pawn moves up two squares and avoids a capture in the process (like here with 1...a5), it can still be captured as if it had moved only once!
