1. e4 is the most popular first move in chess. 

It's a great choice for beginners because you get a really tactical position with many winning chances.

In this study, we'll explore one line after 1. e4 e5 and another one for the Sicilian Defense after 1. e4 c5.

And often you can get a really strong position.

These pawns are also pretty strong. 

You're controlling f6.

If Black captures, this isn't a problem because your c-pawn can replace the d-pawn.

You can block and get ready to castle. 

White is doing really well. I have videos of this opening on my Youtube Channel. Besides this, you can use a database to see the most popular moves, and a chess engine to see what the best moves are. This is how you study openings, generally.

The Italian Opening has you develop the bishop to c4 to control the d5-square. 

Its idea is to clear up the way for the king and to attack on d4 later on with c3 and d4.

If Black challenges your center, you can gain more space.

A very popular response that Black has against 1. e4 is the famous Sicilian Defense. 

Black's pawn on c5 prevents White from putting a second pawn on d4.

You can now get both of your pawns on the center.

And you can now castle. 

We didn't get the 10 Golden Moves because Black also played 1...e5 and challenged us in the center. However, the Italian Opening gives you a strong e4-pawn, a castled king and some developed minor pieces early.

You'll continue with moves like h3, Re1 and c3 to play d4.

The traditional second move is to attack the e5-pawn.

You can develop your knight and start getting ready to castle so you can check the boxes on your opening play.

Black usually checks. This is the most popular variation.

A great weapon against the Sicilian Defense is called the Alapin Sicilian. 

It consists of playing c3 to play d4.

Black usually defends. 

From here there are many openings that you can study on your own. 

But let me introduce you to the Italian Opening.

Black usually answers with 1...e5, being symmetrical.
